ABOUT US

Life-long Career In Human Services

Hello and welcome to my Kozy Korner. My name is Keslyn and I am a certified Life Coach and Counsellor. My belief is that regardless of your past, you have the potential to live your best life. I use my deep empathic abilities and gentle compassion to support clients through areas of depression, anxiety, grief and loss, difficult interpersonal relationships, and trauma. I have worked in areas of inclusion and diversity and am honored to support clients who represent this demographic. I enjoy working with families as a group and individuals of all ages on their personal journey to wellness.

For self-care, I enjoy spending time with my family, especially my grandchildren, reading trashy novels, and spending time in the sun on the water.

HOW LIFE COACHING CAN HELP YOU

“‎Healing may not be so much about getting better, as about letting go of everything that isn’t you – all of the expectations, all of the beliefs – and becoming who you are.”

~ Rachel Naomi Remen

WELCOME TO MY KOZY KORNER, ACCOMPLISH LIFE'S GOALS

The First Steps

The first step is the hardest. Let’s take that step together. While many people can visualize the changes they want in their lives, they struggle with indecisiveness and fear. Coaching can be a powerful tool in helping people take those first steps and stick to a program that facilitates accomplishment and success.

Working together we will define or discover your goals and develop an achievable plan to success. I’ll be with you every step of the way to coach you, encourage you and hold you accountable.

Having an executable plan and support will clear your mind giving you a new perspective, and a positive outlook on your life many find exhilarating.

MY APPROACH TO THERAPY

Trauma-Informed Care

Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) is an approach in the human service field that assumes that an individual is more likely than not to have a history of trauma. The presence of trauma informs a persons’ behaviour and a successful plan to change behaviour requires the person to identify or recognize the events in their life that effects their behaviour and the cycle of problems that inevitably arise.

The Trauma-Informed Care approach requires a paradigm shift in therapy from asking, “What is wrong with this person?” to “What has happened to this person?” The intention is not to treat symptoms or issues related to a trauma but rather to provide support and encouragement appropriate to those who may have experienced trauma, to avoid triggering re-traumatization.

MY CORE VALUES AND APPROACH

Safety is my number one priority as I support clients. It is important to allow client’s space to rebuild a sense of empowerment and control. In building a trusting therapeutic relationship, my style is take things slowly to ensure the therapy process is reparative and not retraumatizing. A traumatic experience can leave you feeling unsafe and without a voice. By living in the present in a safe and trusting space, my hope is you will find your voice and more control over the harmful feelings associated with past events.

Acceptance in therapy can lead to increased flexibility with psychological issues. It is a type of mindfulness practice that allows a client to stay focused on the present moment and accept thoughts and feelings without judgment. Kozy Korner Therapy seeks to provide a space of acceptance where clients are heard and valued. You will be treated as equal with equal responsibilities in the therapeutic alliance we form regardless of age, racial, sexual or gender identity.

Affordability in counselling is not something that is offered often. Counselling sessions can be expensive especially if client’s do not have private insurance to cover sessions. My goal is to work with clients within their budgets as they seek access to better mental health. Kozy Korner offers a free 15 minute “get to know each other” call for clients to ensure a good fit. The going rate for therapists under the Psychology in Alberta scale is $200/hr for individual and couple/family therapy. Kozy Korner offers sessions at less than half that price for $90/hr plus GST and has the potential to take on limited clients on a sliding scale.
